EAGLESHAM TO FLY SOUTH?
By Matt Brady
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fueled by rumors on the DC message boards over the weekend, it appears as though regular Green Lantern penciller, Dale Eaglesham will be the next DC creator to make the move to CrossGen. Eaglesham was announced by DC to have been remaining on the book with the arrival of new GL writer, Ben Raab with issue #165. Eaglesham had been the regular penciller on the title since issue #141.
According to reports on the DC message boards (and independently confirmed by Newsarama), when Eaglesham received an offer from another publisher (albeit unnamed in the postings on the board), DC was unwilling to, or unable to make a counter offer. Reportedly, the sentiment Eaglesham was paraphrased as: 'good luck in Tampa.'
The move by Eaglesham to CrossGen, if indeed true, would be the tenth creator from the Bat/Green Lantern offices since the publisher signed Ron Marz prior to its launching, and roughly the fifteenth creator who was receiving regular work from DC to leave for Florida. The list of émigrés from DC to CrossGen over the past two and a half years includes:
Ron (Green Lantern) Marz: The Path, Scion, Sojourn
Chuck (Robin, Nightwing, Birds of Prey) Dixon: Brath, Crux, Sigil, Way of the Rat
Tony (editor) Bedard: Negation, Route 666, Mystic
John (JLA inker) Dell: Route 666
Laura (colorist) DePuy: Ruse
Dave (JLA inker) Meikis: Negation
Butch (Birds of Prey) Guice: Ruse
Scott (Green Lantern: The New Corps) Eaton: Sigil
Drew (Nightwing) Geraci: The Way of the Rat/ relief inker
Greg (Nightwing) Land: Sojourn
Paul (Green Lantern fill-in, Titans) Pelletier: Negation
Andy (Green Lantern inker) Smith: The First
Mark (JLA) Waid (has since left CG): Ruse, Crux
Scott (Gotham Nights) Beatty (limited relationship): Ruse
When contacted, neither CrossGen nor DC offered a comment in regards to the artists’ current employment status. Generally, CrossGen hires new talent with a specific project for them to work on already in development, but has not conformed any new books on the horizon, aside from the Barbara Kesel/George Perez monthly, Solus, although Dixon has mentioned that the publisher may be doing a historical series soon.
UPDATED: Late Monday, Newsarama was informed that Eaglesham is indeed leaving DC and Green Lantern. His last issue will be #161.
