Oh - SORRY!!!

"SNAKE" will start off with four issues, this will be just the first story, dont worry we have more.
secondly the story will take place the day after the events of "ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK"...we may never actually get to the "LA" story, basically because it takes place several years after the first "ESCAPE" movie.
next up cleavland, its my hope that we get to as much of SNAKES back story as we can...meaning that there are several stories mentioned in the first movie that we can refer to. what is his motivation. his personal pain, his total disregard of most people. what makes snake "SNAKE" so keep your fingers crossed, im sure we'll get to everthing you crazed fanatics want and need.

Frisch aus dem CGE-MessageBoard, von Jan Utstein-O'Neill, Editor der Snake Plissken Chronicles.

>>1. When will the series be set, in relation to the movies?

The first story arc will be set the day after Snake Escapes from NY. The following arcs will all be set in between the 16-year gap between the 2 films.

>>2. How big of a supporting cast will there be?

Still to be determined. Snake will be the main thrust of each story arc.

>>3. Will there be one major "villain" throughout the series or several different unrelated enemies? Or a mixture of both?

Mixture of both.

>>4. What kind of "feel" do you plan for the book to have?

Gritty irreverence. But I'll let Bill elborate on this one later…..

>>5. When is the first issue coming out?

The first issue will be released in conjunction with a new expanded Escape from New York DVD. The exact date has not been set yet, but it should be in April 2003.

>>6. Is the comic con preview still available? and what was in it, exactly?

Yes, we do have some left. You can still purchase it directly from us at Hurricane Entertainment. E-mail us at Snake@HurricaneC.com and we'll send all the info for ordering.

>> 7. Where can we see more works by O'Neill or Rodriguez?

William O'Neill, who will be writing the Snake Plissken Chronicles is the initial creator on both comic book series CHASSIS and VIOLENT MESSIAHS. He also penciled Chassis, which has been published at Millennium, Hurricane and Image Comics. William also penciled the original VIOLENT MESSIAHS b&w issue that came out in 1997.

Tone's incredible pencils can be seen in the new VIOLENT MESSIAHS series at Image. Issue #1 of the new VM story arc shipped today, the trade paper back is currently in stores. If you want to see sample of Tone's work go to www.HurricaneC.com and check out the SNAKE and VM sections.

>>8. Will it be available online, like CrossGen's mainstream books? or in a compendia?

There are no definite plans right now, we are still working this out.

>>9. Is it an ongoing series or does it have a definite end?

It will be an ongoing series told in smaller complete story arcs. The first arc will be 4 issues long, we can't wait to let out the story arc. It is totally irreverent, perfect for the world of Snake.

Escape from New York is one of my favorite movies, so I was already excited about Snake making a comeback, but I hadn't heard who was making the anime until now. Production IG, the people who made Ghost in the Shell are making the Snake anime! How cool is that? The woman from Production IG said that not only are they working on it, but this would actually be the first co-production between a Japanese anime studio and American producers. I'm guessing that's what the guys from Maverick were doing there. They said they were looking for a 2005 release and that everyone was very excited.

Debra Hill said that different Snake stories would be told through different mediums. The anime will take place after Escape from LA, while the comic will start the day after Escape from New York. Stories like how Snake lost his eye and the Battle of Leningrad will come out in the videogame. She also said that Fabian Nicieza is writing the books.

It's great to see some producers in Hollywood working so closely with people on the comic and anime side. First the Wachowski brothers with the Animatrix and now this. Hopefully this is just the beginning of a trend.

Cool.

"Well here's the official word. Hurricane is planning on a June release for the first issue of John Carpenter's Snake Plissken Chronicles. After that it should ship bi-monthly.

Here's the scoop...

1 - The Comic book - "John Carpenter's Snake Plissken Chronicles" will be released by CrossGen in June 2003. The comic is produced by Hurricane Ent. in partnership with John Carpenter, Debra Hill and Kurt Russell. Hurricane is the company that produces "Violent Messiahs" and "Chassis". "Violent Messiahs" artist Tone Rodriguez is on Pencils. VM initial creator and "Chassis" co-creator William O'Neill will write and Colorist Chris Blythe who is coloring Lady Death for CrossGen will do the same for Snake. The first story arc begins the day after Snake has escaped from New York. We will have pages and cover art uploaded soon. In the meantime go to http://www.hurricanec.com/home.htm and click on the Snake icon. It will get you to a couple of pics. Check back for the exact release date.

2 - There will be a new Escape from New York DVD, I'll know tomorrow when it is due out. The new DVD will have alot of bonus material, including a 20 minute scene where Snake is committing the heist that got him into NY in the first place. More on this later.

3 - A Snake Anime Feature - Production IG, the folks that brought us "Ghost in a Shell" are onboard to do the animation. This is due out in Summer 2005. It will be released theatrically with the voice of Kurt Russell and the music of John Carpenter. Corey Mitchel and Will Wilson have written the screenplay which takes place after the "Escape from LA" film..

4 - Novels - Fabian Nicieza will be writing novels based on Snake Plissken. No release date yet.

5 - Video game - The production company has not been announced yet, but a game is in the works.

Debra Hill, John and Kurt are all very much involved. The different factions are all working close together so that the continuity remains throughout the different media. On a personal note, it has been fun working on this project and being part of the Snake family.

Hab folgendes nettes im US CrossGen Forum gefunden :

The covers are NOT variants, they are alternates. What is the difference?

A Variant Cover, for example, is shipped one in for or one in ten, etc. For every 10 of the regular covers shipped, one of the variant is shipped. This makes the variant in short supply and IS a gimmick to create a more "collectable" cover.

An Alternate Cover means you get your choice of which cover you prefer. Each cover is listed in the order book separately and you get to choose.

You all have to remember that even though we publish with CrossGen, we are still a small company. There are many reasons why a small must do things a bit differently than a company like CrossGen who has much greater resources than we do.

I hope you will understand that this is not a gimmick, but a marketing strategy. A way for a brand new #1 book to arrive on any given Wednesday and pop out to the folks coming in to buy books.

We will not always have multiple covers, just in the beginning when we are trying to build a fan base. The more folks that buy the book in the beginning of a run, the larger your readership will be when you are on #6. Face it, not many new readers pick up a series after the first 3-4 issues have shipped. This also allows us to test the waters and see what Snake readers are looking for.

Someday when the comic's market is stronger and our company is bigger, we too will be able to ship one cover. Until then, we are forced to do what is necessary to have a book survive in today's comic market place.

I hope you will all pick up the book and read it based on its content. It will be a fun and visually enticing read. Don't miss out on something really good because of principals that should only be reserved for the larger companies.

THE STARS COME OUT FOR SNAKE!

Director John Carpenter, Producer Debra Hill,
And Actor Kurt Russell To Autograph JOHN CARPENTER'S SNAKE PLISSKEN CHRONICLES #1!

TAMPA, FL., April 23, 2003

The return of Snake Plissken to the world of pop culture has many people excited, but none more than his creators, director John Carpenter, producer Debra Hill, and actor Kurt Russell. In celebration of the renowned anti-hero's return, CrossGen Entertainment and Hurricane Entertainment have arranged for all three Hollywood superstars to sign copies of JOHN CARPENTER'S SNAKE PLISSKEN CHRONICLES #1, on sale June 25th, as a special Retailer Incentive.

"Initially we offered a free copy of issue #1 signed by John Carpenter as a special incentive to the first 100 retailers who ordered 150 copies," stated Jan Utstein-O'Neill, CEO of Hurricane Entertainment. "However, when we did a grass roots campaign, polling retailers on their response to the preview copies of SNAKE PLISSKEN CHRONICLES that reached them just last week, we found that order activity would be higher than anticipated. Therefore, we would like to thank the retailing community by altering the incentive criteria. We have decided to entirely eliminate the 'only the first 100 retailers to order' requirement and lower the minimum order from 150 to just 90 copies. This will now allow the incentive to be available to smaller stores."

"We only recently found out from Debra that Kurt Russell himself would be pleased to sign copies to help draw attention to new stories starring Snake," explained series writer William O'Neill. "How cool is that? This has got to be a first for the comic book industry."

"Snake Plissken is John Carpenter's favorite character that he created," stated Hill. "He's also Kurt Russell's favorite to play, and my favorite to share with many generations of new fans."

JOHN CARPENTER'S SNAKE PLISSKEN CHRONICLES, phase one of a much larger Snake launch, is the result of a partnership between Hurricane Entertainment and Carpenter, Hill, and Russell. The debut of the comic book series will be followed by a new release of Escape From New York on DVD from MGM Home Video, with a plethora of bonus materials, including pages from the comic itself. There will also be a series of novelizations, an anime feature from Production IG (producers of Ghost In The Shell), and an electronic video game due out summer of 2005.

"Snake still has a lot of fans," added Tony Panaccio, CrossGen's Senior Vice President of Product Development. "Retailers can expect many of the top entertainment magazines to cover his big return."

The complete set of Incentives now include:

JOHN CARPENTER'S SNAKE PLISSKEN CHRONICLES #1 (in solicitation now for June release) Incentive - buy 90 (any combination of three covers) and get a free issue #1, Tone Rodriguez Cover, signed by director John Carpenter (Big Trouble In Little China, The Thing).

JOHN CARPENTER'S SNAKE PLISSKEN CHRONICLES #2 (August release) Incentive - buy 60 (any combination of two covers) and get a free issue #1, Kurt Russell Photomontage, signed by actor Kurt Russell (Backdraft, Stargate).

JOHN CARPENTER'S SNAKE PLISSKEN CHRONICLES #3 (October release) Incentive - buy 50 (any combination of two covers) and get a free issue #1, John Van Fleet cover, signed by Producer Debra Hill (Halloween, The Fisher King).

As a bonus, writer William O'Neill and artist Tone Rodriguez will also sign all of the free issues.

O-Ton Mark Alessi:

To set the record straight, even though thru our actions there was no need to comment, CG products will not have alternate, varient or optional covers. We never have had and never will. Affiliated companies who publish thru us are not required to follow this parameter since it's their product and their company. They know how I feel on the subject but it's their decision. I only require that the material they publish not be offensive from a sexual or violence perspective. Both of those issues with regard to future publishing decisions will be reviewed on a case by case basis and I will solicit opinions from senior staff here before making any judgements. One example of that process being that we could have published Violent Messiahs which has a solid following but which we felt was outside of our comfort zone. Feel free to jump in again anytime. Best Regards, Mark

Press Release

JOHN CARPENTER'S SNAKE PLISSKEN CHRONICLES #1 Hits The Streets One Month Early!

JOHN CARPENTER'S SNAKE PLISSKEN CHRONICLES #1, originally scheduled for a June 25th release, will now reach comics shops on May 29th. The all-new bi-monthly series, written by William O'Neill and illustrated by Tone Rodriguez, is the creation of CrossGen publishing client Hurricane Entertainment.

"Once again, Snake is surprising everyone," said Hurricane CEO Jan Utstein-O'Neill. "Striking suddenly, the anti-hero is now making his debut nearly a full month early. And that means that we'll be able to sign copies at the WizardWorld: East comic convention in Philadelphia on May 30th. We will also be premiering a special Convention Exclusive cover that will only be available during the 2003 con season."

"In the new series, Snake will tear his way through New York, Atlantic City and Philadelphia," added writer William O'Neill. "Now, we'll do the same!"

While on the East Coast, writer William O'Neill, artist Tone Rodriguez and Jan Utstein-O'Neill will participate in a tour of local comics shops. Appearances to date include Zap Comics in Freehold, NJ on May 29th; WizardWorld: East at the Philadelphia Convention Center from May 30th – June 1st; and Jester's Playhouse in Northfield, NJ, on June 4th. Jester's is located just outside Atlantic City, where the first Snake story begins. Finally, on June 5th, the Hurricane crew will be at Midtown Comics right in the heart of New York City. Copies of JOHN CARPENTER'S SNAKE PLISSKEN CHRONICLES #1 and VIOLENT MESSIAHS will be available, as well as plenty of fun giveaways. Readers are advised to contact the comics shops for exact location and times.

The first issue of JOHN CARPENTER'S SNAKE PLISSKEN CHRONICLES will also contain extras, such as a bonus sketchbook that includes the first artwork Rodriguez drew of Snake Plissken that landed the partnership with John Carpenter, Debra Hill and Kurt Russell. As another added bonus, issue #1 also includes a four-page sneak preview of Hurricane's newest project THE DIPLOMATS, written and drawn by William O'Neill.
