Profil
Gallhammer started out as a group paying homage to the style of the Swiss band Hellhammer, but evolved into a successful black metal group of three musicians, who gained praise for the intense atmosphere their music creates. The band says their theme represents mental violence and that they express negative, raw feelings.
Biographie
In a way Gallhammer began in 2002, as band leader Vivian (Vocal, bass) started out a new band, although their official debut came only in February 2003. Risa (drums) and Mika (guitar) joined the band, but both had only worked as vocalists before, just as Vivian had, and therefore no-one knew how to play instruments. Nor did they have a clear black metal background - the members had each been a part of different kinds of genres, such as grindcore, noise and avant-garde.
The first demo tape was published in March 2003 and it was given out free at their first ever gig at Koiwa Death Fest Vol.2. In the beginning they played covers from Hellhammer and Amebix, due to their original devotion to those bands.
The debut full-length, Gloomy Lights, was released November, 11th 2004 via the Japanese label "Hello From The Gutter". The first press was sold out, but later a second press was released in Finland and in Mexico.
The success took the band to the Europe, where Peaceville, a British label, became interested in their music. Gallhammer signed a recording contract for the next album, but before recording it, they released a seductive best of. Dawn of..., a CD+DVD release, included not only carefully chosen songs, but also a lot of video material from the bygone years. This appetizer came out in January 2007, whereas the album consisting of new material is expected later in the year. In September Gallhammer will start their European promotion tour, which includes UK, The Netherlands, Norway, Belgium and Finland, and on which they will also meet the doom band Church of Misery for two gigs of the tour.
