The X-Men (1963-)
The X-Men debuted as a comic book by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1963. It was almost certainly based on Henry Kuttner's 1953 novel Mutant (bald mutant telepaths with pointy eyebrows). Mutant seems based on A.E. Van Vogt's highly influential 1940 novel Slan, which first introduced the now cliched idea of super-powered mutants banding together against human prejudice and oppression.

A "Slan" is widely reputed to be a codeword for a science fiction "fan" (co-op households of SF fans were called "slan shacks," the equivilant of today's "geekhaus"). The first fanclub for science fiction may have been the "The Science Correspondence Club," formed 1930. Their mission was "the furtherance of science and its dissemination among the laymen of the world and the final betterment of humanity." In other words, a bunch of geeks seeking to "save a world that hates and fears us." Yep... the original X-Men are us science fiction geeks!!

Wenn ich mich recht entsinne sollte The X-MEN erst The Mutants heißen, was ja doch irgendwie die obrige Theorie indirekt bestätigt. Außerdem habe ich eine Promokarte zum AoA auf der die Serien mit dem Zusatz "The Mutants" neu betitelt werden sollten.

Es gibt sicher einen Haufen von Inspirationen die in der einen oder anderen Form sich in X-MEN wiederfinden, so z.B. The Brood die erkennbar von Alien inspiriert wurden.

Was gibt's noch? Und hat jemand eines oder sogar beide Bücher gelesen? (Beide in den 60'gern in Deutschland erschienen!)

Stan Lee war auch beeinflusst von der weltweiten Para-Psycho-Welle in den frühen 60ern. Auch dort sprach man bereits von "Mutanten".
