    PROFILE:

    Tomoyasu Hotei has been leading rock’n roll world in Japan for over two decades, sold over 25 million albums, and is increasingly well known internationally. Possessing strong skills as both a guitarist and songwriter, he has played in various configurations and styles, but has always been at heart a rocker. Standing well over six feet, and often clad in black or in denim, and he has been cast in film and a popular TV commercial such as TOYOTA.
    He started playing guitar in junior high and began his recording career in 1981 as the guitarist in the glam/new wave band BO¦WY. The band became major stars in Japan, in 1985 played the Marquee in London, and in 1986 had their first million seller, “Beat Emotion”.
    When the band broke in 1988, Hotei established himself as a solo star, as did BO¦WY singer Kyosuke Himuro. Hotei also made two albums with Koji Kikkawa as Complex, both of which went to number one in the national charts.
    Hotei frequently records overseas, and has collaborated with many foreign musicians, including playing on Strangler Hugh Cornwell’s ’93 solo album, on stage with David Bowie at Nippon Budokan in ’96, and at the closing ceremony of ’98 Atlanta Olympics with Michael Kamen. He later recorded “Guitar Concerto” with Kamen. He has also worked with Andy Mackay of Roxy Music, guitarist Chris Spedding and Mike Edwards of Jesus Jones.
    Hotei also sometimes plays in Europe, and performances include a number of major festival dates. His regular drummer, Zachary Alford, has previously played with Bruce Springsteen, David Bowie, B-52’s and Gwen Stefani. Hotei’s album of 1999 “Supersonic Generation”, recorded in part with Apollo 440 and Ofra Haza, was released in 14 European countries and Canada.
    Hotei’s songs have appeared on the soundtrack to Terry Gilliam’s “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” and in the 1998 Japanese film “Samurai Fiction”, in which he also starred, and “Battle Without Honor or Humanity” was used in the Quentin Tarantino film “Kill Bill” and Michael Bay’s film “Transformers”. Hotei also had a cut on the album “Merry Axemas”, along with Jeff Beck, Joe Perry and Steve Vai. In his album of 2006 “Soul Sessions”, he has collaborated with many musicians including Brian Setzer, David Sanborne, etc. In 2007, He made gigs by 3 great guitarists with Brian and Char succeed at Nippon Budokan and others. And also, a program of MTV-Unplugged he produced and performed won the best music programme of Asian Television Awards 2007. As another great collaboration, Hotei was featured in “Grace” on the Apocalyptica album Worlds Collide. Most lately, Hotei had a spectacular gig at Todaiji which is a world heritage temple in Japan.

    Ich hab seit letzter Woche seine "All time Super Best Tour "DVD und kann nur sagen, Hammer !!!! Sehr geil, der Mann ist ein Gitarrengott ...

    Irgendwie freut es mich, dass Hotei zusammen mit the Wanderes arbeitet bzw. gearbeitet hat. Die Live- DVD zu der Tour, die am 23.4. erscheint werde ich mir wohl auf jeden Fall zulegen.

    Wie findet ihr es eigentlich, dass Hotei jetzt mit Kameda Seiji und KREVA zusammen arbeitet als THE THREE, wobei der letzt genannte auch noch Hip-Hoper ist.

    Den Song den sie zusammen kreieren werden, wird am 7.05. erscheinen und soll eine Mischung aus HipHop und Rock sein... hm, ich bin jedenfalls gespannt, wie sich das anhören wird.
