ahhh.......

okay........er liegt nicht ^^********

also.....das letzte pic gefällt der Elly am besten @_@ (ban_gin3. jpg) tehe he XD, das hat was ......

oi >_< ,

There is something about the collar around his neck, the way the
metal feels so cold, and that it's just loose enough to weigh down on
his collar bones.

Or maybe it's just the chain that's joining his collar to Ginji's.

He collects the links in his hand, and they clink and slide on his
palm when he moves forward against Ginji, who is shaking, just the
tiniest bit, his eyes fixed on the chain, on the collar, anywhere but
Ban's face.

The hollow of Ginji's neck smells a bit like ozone, a bit like burnt
sugar, and Ban burrows there, settling his hands very slowly on
Ginji's hips, andwaiting for his breathing to even outand for his
eyes to trace their way past his chin.

Ginji's eyes settle carefully somewhere to the right of Ban's ear,
but he pulls Ginji's face back towards his, and his glasses slip with
the motion, and when Ginji turns, he finds that he is looking dead
center, into Ban's eyes. He blinks rapidly, and takes one deep harsh
breath.

His hands come up, and curl around Ban's wrist, uncertainly.

Ban's mouth quirks up, and he holds Ginji's eyes as he slides down
onto his knees.

Ginji's mouth opens, but no sound comes out, and his Adam's apple
bobs once, hard. His hands slide from Ban's arm to his shoulders, and
he leans on them like he's unable to stand without help..

There is a zap of electricity on Ban's tongue when he takes the
zipper in between his teeth, but he ignores it, and his eyelids slide
down as he tugs.

He can smell the electricity.

The small hairs on his arms are standing up, and there is an almost-
audible hum in his palms when he nuzzles in between the gaping front
of Ginji's pants. Ginji can just barely see the violet slits of his
eyes now, and when Ban's nose nudges him, he clenches his hands on
Ban's shoulders. His grip burns through his gloves, through the
shirt, black scorch marks in the shape of his palms on the fabric and
red patches on Ban's skin that takes weeks to fade.

Ginji's skin prickles against Ban's hands when he slides his pants
and underwear down in tangled heap, and the small electrical shocks
vibrate up his hands, into his jaw. Ginji is harder than he can
remember being, and Ban takes a moment to pull his mouth along the
length of his cock. The charges are half-painful, half-exciting on
his lips, and when he pauses for a moment on the vein, they throb in
time with Ginji's heart - hard and fast and almost on the brink of
hysteria. There is a crackle along the length of the chain for a long
moment as he slowly opens his mouth, flicks another glance at Ginji,
who is almost dispassionately frozen except for the flush high along
his cheeks.

There is a /jerk/ when he closes his mouth over the head of Ginji's
cock, all along the chain and jolting through Ginji's body at a speed
too fast for even Ban to track, and there is sudden pain from the
places on his shoulders where Ginji's hands rest. Ginji's eyes are no
longer dispassionate - they are wide, pupils dilated,
and /Ican'tbelieveyou'redoingthis/, and his hips reflexively
make a minute thrust. Ban slides just a bit further down Ginji's
length and purrs softly

This time, Ginji shudders, all the way down to his toes, and his head
bends forwards, mouth falling open to gasp almost silently. His eyes
are all pupil, huge and black and focused intently on Ban, on what
he's is doing.

Ban thinks his shirt might be flaking to pieces in Ginji's hands, but
he doesn't care. His own erection is pushing insistently at the seams
of his pants, but the chain is burning cold against his face, and
Ginji's legs ease fractionally apart, so he takes a deep breath, one
half-warning lick against Ginji's cock, opens his throat, and pulls
Ginji's hips forward, trying not to choke.

Ginji /bends/ like Ban forgets he can, backwards, and he follows him,
leaning forwards on his knees. Now he's staring up at the ceiling,
head tilted back like a supplicant. The smell of ozone is stronger
now, harsh and burning, it feels like it's going to seep right into
his skin. This close, he can feel the tingling of electricity on
Ginji like a second skin, a low, humming force field that makes his
scalp tingle right down into his skull.

Ban's entire mouth feels like it's burning, down into his throat, and
he spares a moment to think about what might happen to it if Ginji
comes inside him. The chain is tugging on his throat from the angle
Ginji is bending at, and he can feel it branding him, the electricity
coursing along the chain, around his neck and up and down his spine,
making his heart race. Ginji is fucking his mouth in small twitches,
and Ban feels more than he hears the sounds Ginji's making in his
throat.

Ginji's hands are twisting higher and tighter into his shirt, pulling
Ban up and deeper against him. Ban's mouth is going to have friction
burns in a few hours, and his lips have cracked. Ban tastes blood and
Ginji and raw pain, but Ginji makes that sound deep in the back of
his throat, rattling the chain as he moves.

Ban can feel himself begin to lose control of his body, his hands
curling up into claws, digging deep into Ban's hips, and yet he
forces himself to take Ginji even deeper, not even bothering to stop
himself from salivating onto Ginji's pants.

He can't make himself stop, because through all the pain and the
blank spots of his vision he can't let go of the fact that
it's /Ginji/, and Ginji's /fucking/ his mouth /so hard/ Ban can feel
his eyes beginning to roll back in their sockets.

"Ban! Stop, /please/" Ginji chokes on the last word, "You're going to—
"

Ban swallows, his throat already constricting painfully, spasming,
and Ginji comes, pulling sharply back on the collar as his back arcs
wildly. The world whites out at the corners of Ban's field of vision,
and Ginji floods his throat with scalding hot semen.

Ban gags painfully, and lets go, coughing. His heart is beating so
fast and he's so high on adrenaline and endorphins he thinks he's
going into shock and he can't even bring himself to care, because
he's done it. He's done it to Ginji and there's plenty of time to for
self-loathing later in private.

Ginji collapses onto his knees, beside him, and the chain is finally
slack enough for him to collapse flat out on the floor. Ban knows
he's singed all over and he couldn't care less. There's a dark bubble
of joy within him that burst right open when Ginji came, right into
his mouth, and he swallowed it all, every last bit of it.

Ginji is calling his name.

"Ban," and he can hear the unshed tears of worry in Ginji's
tone, "Ban, are you all right?"

He looks right up into Ginji's eyes, electric blue, and Ban smiles,
and raps Ginji's head with his knuckles

"Of course I'm alright, you idiot. In fact I want to do it again."

"Ban-chan…."

There is a hitch in his breath as Ban is hit by a swell of feeling
for Ginji so dark, so powerful that he knows he's willing to do
anything, /anything/ for him, no matter how excruciating or evil or
degrading, as long as he has this baptism that's purer than fire, an
absolution for his self-perpetuated sin; stripping at Ginji's purity,
one slow fuck at a time.

Tears had sprung into Ginji's eyes when Ban rapped him on the head,
and now Ban feels arms encircle him and hold him tightly. Ban holds
him right back, closes his eyes, and hates.

das hier ist einfach nur putzig ^-^

Ban's right shoulder aches every time the weather suddenly becomes
very cold.

Ginji doesn't spend too much time wondering why their injuries don't
scar, but he is reminded of it every time he sees Ban pretending he
isn't cramping up in places where numerous objects have raked,
slashed, stabbed or run through his body.

He never quite remembers not to say anything about it, and gets
clobbered for daring to mention the fact that Ban is not invulnerable.

Or was that invincible? Ginji thinks they mean the same thing, in the
end.

He doesn't have the same problem, because of many things he doesn't
understand. When he sees Ban wince (though technically he's not
supposed to), he supposes he's lucky.

Ginji feels Ban shift in his chair, discreetly, trying not to wake
him. He wheedles, with his eyes still closed.

"Ban-chaaan, I'm hungry!"

Ban starts, and Ginji feels the jerk where he is. He hears the clink
of a lighter, followed by the familiar smell of the cigarettes Ban
smokes.

"I thought you were asleep?"

Ban's voice is rough. He supposes it must be pretty bad tonight,
probably aggravated by them sleeping in the Lady Bug.

"I can't." His stomach growls, helpfully. "My tummy won't let me
sleep."

Ban is silent for a moment. Ginji opens his eyes to see him searching
his pockets, the cigarette dangling precariously from his lips.

"What are you doing, Ban?"

Ban grunts, and digs deeper into the back pocket of his pants.
Finally he yanks his hand back out, closed in a fist. He opens it,
and Ginji can see he's holding on to some coins. Ban counts them, and
tosses them in the air, catching them before they scatter everywhere.

"Come, Ginji," he says. "I'll treat you to a cup of coffee."

They hang about outside McDonalds until it opens, and Ban gets the
coffee while Ginji goes to swipe extra sugar and creamer at the
counter.

They find a table far away from the counter and everyone else, which
isn't hard because it's really too early in the morning. Ban watches
Ginji dump satchet after satchet of sugar and non-dairy creamer into
the styrofoam cup and chooses not to voice out any of the dozen
things he wants to say about Ginji drinking creamy coffee syrup at
the crack of dawn.

Ginji drinks about half of the cup in one large gulp, and offers the
rest to Ban. He cuffs him (not too hard) on the back of his head, and
says something about McDonald's coffee not being fit for human
consumption, especially when it's so sweet it's semi-viscous.

"Have it yourself." He says.

Ginji looks at him for a moment, and takes a slow slurp of coffee.

"But you haven't had anything since the day before yesterday." He
points out.

Ban takes a cigarette out and almost lights it before he remembers
he's not supposed to.

"You should have remembered that before you made the coffee
undrinkable."

Ginji starts and looks contrite.

"I'm sorry, Ban-chan." A tiny sip and Ginji's face is hidden behind
the cup except for his eyes.

"Idiot. Just finish your coffee," Ban says, suddenly irritable. "We
need to find a job soon if you want to eat."

und noch mehr fluffiges ^-^ (hoi...heut hat Sirenchen viel zu lesen XD)

It's raining very hard, and Ban can barely open his eyes wide enough to see.
It's dark, which makes it worse, the only bit of light coming from the
headlights of his car.

Ginji's whooping somewhere close by, jumping into every puddle he can find.
It does nothing to make him any wetter than he is already, just muddier.

Ban is equally soggy, but the difference is, he didn't choose to get wet.
And he sure as hell isn't enjoying it.

His hair's plastered flat against his head.

He hates it when that happens.

"Ginji!"

There is a flash of lightning, then the roar of thunder, and there, Ginji's
there, and he's glowing with energy-it should be impossible for anyone to be
alive after something like this- but Ginji's not just standing upright but
he's fucking *incandescent*.

Ban's not worried, at least, not until the point where Ginji's figure begins
to crumple onto the ground.

He knew it, knew that not even Ginji could take a lightning strike and not
be injured, that stupid kid, he's going to *kill* him if he got himself hurt
with that stupid stunt.

"Ginji, you idiot-" He says, already kneeling beside Ginji's prone form when
he hears it, Ginji's laughing, so hard he's curled up on his side trying to
get his stomach to stop cramping.

"Ba...Ban-chan! You look-did you think I-" And he's off again, laughing like
a hyena, and Ban can't help himself, he's laughing too.

Ginji might be a complete idiot, but so is he.

They're a matched set. Somehow that idea makes him laugh harder.

"I'm okay, Ban. Lightning doesn't hurt me at all. See?"

Ginji's stopped laughing, and is looking up at him, where Ban's body is
shielding his face from the worst of the rain. He holds up a hand, and sure
enough, there's not a mark on him.

"Yeah, I see." He says, softly. Almost too softly.

"Don't worry, Ban-chan." And here Ginji blinks away the rain dripping down
Ban's hair and into his eyes. "It won't get you, while I'm here."

"What?"

Ginji smiles back, guileless.

"The lightning. What else?"

Ban lets go of Ginji's shoulders, and lets him get back up.

"Let's go get something to eat." He yells, above the din the thunderstorm is
making. "While we still have money."

Ginji whoops, and hugs him, tackling them both onto the ground again.

"Pizza." He says, right into Ban's ear. "I want pizza."

He can feel the warmth radiating from Ginji's body, even in the pouring
rain.

"Yeah sure," he says, a little breathlessly. Ginji must have knocked the
breath out of him. "Anything you want."

so schläft also Ginji.....hmm.....naja....vielleicht will ihn nicht uuuuuuuuuuuuunbedingt zum freund XD ( huh.....SCHERZ! >_< ....wer könnte Schnuffelchen Ginji schon widerstehn ^^*)

Ginji is a restless sleeper.

When they actually have money to rent a motel room, no matter what sort of
beds they start off sleeping in (twin singles, a double, a single), Ban will
inevitably wake up sticky with sweat, clothes and sheets and blankets and
Ginji plastered to him.

Ginji twitches when he sleeps, and holds on very tightly, with his arms and
legs, a human octopus. Sometimes it's a pillow, sometimes it's Ban.

Most times it's Ban.

It's like Ginji can sense body warmth and head for it, even while
half-asleep. Ban has been woken up a few times by a sleepy push to his back
or his chest to make room for a mostly unconscious Ginji with hair sticking
up everywhere, clutching his pillow and blankets.

"Sleep in your own bed." He would say, muzzily, as Ginji wriggles his way
between the sheets to sneak his arms unerringly around Ban's torso.

"D'nwanna."

"Ginji..."

But Ginji would have fallen asleep by then so Ban has to edge himself
further to one side so he won't get squashed, and try to sleep. He isn't
usually successful. Ban doesn't like sleeping with other people; the
awareness of another body close to his keeps him from truly falling asleep.

Ginji has a habit of breathing on him, and that makes it worse.

If Ginji's holding him especially close, Ban doesn't even bother trying.

The first few times that happened, he had pushed Ginji off him, but then
Ginji had looked so /lost/, slow and stupid with sleep, hurt showing all
over his face and the slump of his shoulders as he shuffled back to his own
bed.

Ban gave up, the last time that happened, and called him back.

Ginji had clutched him so tight that night Ban discovered bruises on his
skin the next morning.

He's tried, giving off don't-touch-me vibes. Everyone gets it but Ginji, who
feels compelled to touch him. All the time. And even if he tells Ginji to
get out of his hair, he can never bring himself to push him away.

Ban only suffers sleepless nights on beds.

ugh...@_______@

seltsamste fic der Welt >_< (die leute meinten, das wär um 6 uhr morgens enstanden, die einen überfüllt mir kokain und die andren halb im Schlaf...naja....)

The Honky Tonk was fairly crowded that afternoon, although Ginji and Ban had managed to keep their regular booth. The group was a boisterous and loud one, a computer club named #Fret that sometimes met to chat and argue in the little cafe. It was a little odd to see these people typing industriously on their laptops, reading their screen, and then suddenly laughing out loud or turning to a person across the room and arguing with him or her directly, but Ban and Ginji were used to their strangeness by now. Sometimes, as today, they even participated in the discussion.

Natsumi was playing hostess because many of these freaks were her friends. This left Paul to serve the occasional pizza, brew coffee, and put the river of used mugs in the dishwasher by himself. He didn't seem to mind, though, bustling back and forth efficiently with a cigarette in his mouth and keeping an eye on the group. #Fret could sometimes get a bit out of order and he sometimes needed to put the smack down on them, which wasn't too difficult as, at heart, even the most fierce of the combatants was a DDRing computer nerd who feared Paul's wrath. The arguments were usually over something idiotic anyway.

"All right," said Natsumi, balancing a large whiteboard on the smooth wooden bar and drawing on it with a black marker, "We all agree on this emoticon, right?" She drew a large XD on the board. The room nodded. "Okay! Moving on... do we all have a common understanding of this emoticon?" The marker squeaked as she drew something that looked like this: _o_ . Many people in the room looked a bit puzzled, some looked as if they recognized it, and Kisai was looking at porn and didn't even notice.

"It's a facefault!" Ginji announced cheerfully. "It's just like that earlier face--" he jumped up and drew a -_- underneath the _o_ so people could see the similarities, "--only it's upside down with its mouth open to show that it's, like, shocked or whatever!"

"I can see that," said some of the people in the group.

"I've seen people use that to indicate bowing," said Orion, who was sitting in front.

"It looks like someone 'presenting' to me," said one of the girls with a faint blush.

"Presenting?" Ginji repeated, puzzled, going to sit back down.

"You know... um... presenting one's... uh... bending over... for...sexual favors..."

Ginji just stared at her. "That never, ever entered my mind. Why would you have an emoticon for that?!"

"Well, people like to do all kinds of things in ASCII!" Orion interjected cheerfully. "Like you can make a penis like this--" he grabbed the marker and quickly drew 8==> on the board, "Or you can even draw a vulva--"

"... NO VULVA PLZKTHX," someone objected, but Orion was already drawing a ({|}) on the board.

Ginji sighed. "Whatever. Just assume when *I* use _o_, I'm not offering my anal cherry to you."

Ban leaned over the table and grinned at his friend, cupping his mouth with his hand as he whispered. "Unless, of course, you're speaking to me!"

Ginji stared at Ban. "Ban-chan... speaking to you about wh--oh. uh." He blushed red to the roots of his golden hair. "Umm... uhhhh... I didn't know you'd want... um...... uhh... do you... uh.. want... um..." He blushed even redder, and Ban could FEEL the heat coming off his skin. "Uhh..."

Ban smirked at the blushing Ginji. "Nice try at playing innocent."

Ginji blushed some more. "I AM innocent! R-really! I mean, there was that time I walked in on Kazuki and Juubei and HOOO was that embarassing, but I didn't trust anyone in the Mugenjou THAT much, ya know? ^^; So. Um. I thought all those times you grabbed my ass were, maybe, accidents or something.. ^^;;;"

Ban eyed Ginji. "How the hell could I have done some of that stuff by ACCIDENT?"

Ginji shrugged, still blushing. "I thought maybe it was... uh... platonic friendship male hijinks? You know... Like that time you got me off in the car? I didn't know if that was on purpose." He paused. "Okay, I'm an idiot. Do you want my anal cherry or not?"

Ban facefaulted. "...Ginji..."

Ginji, who'd been staring at him waiting for a reply, suddenly looked away with his face even redder than before (somehow) and then he took a deep breath and lifted his chin melodramatically. "I... I understand if you say no, Ban-chan! I shouldn't have asked! You probably think I'm a freak now! It probably WAS platonic friendship male hijinks! Like football players snapping each other's asses with wet towels! Forget I said anything! I'm, uh, going to the bathroom now!"

He suddenly jumped up and ran off through the crowd of #Fretters, who largely ignored them and continued arguing about the merits of Konami DDR pads vs Red Octane pads.

Ban stood up, somewhat puzzled, and wondered if he should follow. O_o

Ginji huddled in one of the two bathroom stalls and hoped Paul didn't hear... anything. >_>

He heard the door open and shut, and peeked under the stall door for a look at the person's shoes. It was Ban.

Ban did not ease Ginji's mind by randomly singing, "Do it all night, do it with me! > As hot as a fire, and as strong as a tree!"

Ginji groaned, hearing Ban singing in the bathroom. DAMMIT WHY IS HE PLAYING WITH ME? ARGH, he thought in frustration. His pants were already open.

Ginji tried to think of a song to rebut with. "HELP ME DOCTOR DICK~"he sang, unconsciously picking an E-rotic song because Ban had been singing one.

Then he rethought that. Okay... no.. wait...maybe that wasn't the right song to rebut with... >_>;;

Ban ambled over to the other side of the stall door and pulled himself up to peer over the top, looking rather cocky (and no, that's not a pun), though all he saw was the top of Ginji's spiky blonde head. "You called?"

Ginji, still facing away, quickly tried to think of another song. "I'm just a poor boy, nobody loves me! (He's just a poor boy from a poor family!)"

Ban just... stared... down at Ginji.

Ginji gave up on the Bohemian Rhapsody and belted out the initial D opening. "INFORMATION byousoku de tsutawaru jidai! demo CHOICE no shikata ga wakaranai! MONEY CAN'T BUY MY LOVE nante nonki na yatsu ni LARIAT sankai!"

Ban stared at Ginji some more. "Uh, do you always sing when you... er..."

Ginji turned around, realized Ban was actually looking at him, and let out a loud "EEEEEEP!" when he saw Ban hanging over the stall door.

"AAAAUGH THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE PRIVATE!! O_O N-no, I don't sing, I was trying to d-distract myself so I wouldn't... while you were in here... so I wouldn't... uh... oh god, Ban-chan... stop looking at me or I'll go insane... @_@"

Ginji pondered electrocuting Ban to knock him out for about five minutes... That'd be long enough to wash my hands, right?

Ban let his glasses slide a little further down his nose, meeting Ginji's eyes...

Ginji saw Ban looking sexier than ever with his glasses down his nose and desperately tried to think of songs that don't inspire hardons.

"Ha... HAKUNA MATATA!!! WHAT A WONDERFUL PHRASE!! HAKUNA MATATA IT AIN'T NO PASSING CRAZE!!!"

Ban gave Ginji a... nice dream. <3 And there was splurting and stuff.

". . . WHAT THE HELL?" roared a voice from behind them. Ban swung around and blanched, his face paling. Paul, who happened to have just entered the bathroom, was standing there staring at them.

Paul opened and closed his mouth a few times, his cigarette dropping to the floor.

Ban eeped in fear and crowded into the tiny bathroom stall with Ginji, who was trying to do up his pants (without much success; his panic-numbed fingers couldn't seem to work the zipper).

"YOU SO JUST RUINED THE LION KING FOREVER!"

A few tears, innocence lost, ran from beneath the round opaque lenses of Paul's glasses.

Paul turned and ran out of the washroom, leaving Ban and Ginji staring at one another with wide eyes and blank expressions.

Then they both cracked up and fell to the floor, laughing so hard their sides ached.

THE END

(we're sorry.)

Closer To Me

The coldest hour was always the hour before dawn. This was not something Amano Ginji had read in a book - he had simply observed it through the experience of many long nights, as he did so many things. Slender hands rested on the grimy railing of a balcony, a lonely little place hidden away from the rest of the existence he knew, and yet, the only point from which he'd ever been able to look out at the world beyond Mugenjou. This was his solace, this was where he came to hide, and he had more to hide from now than he usually did.

Kadsuki's voice echoed in his mind, restraining Shido from following him when he'd told them he wanted to be alone. Shido was angry, very angry, Ginji knew, he'd fairly felt the steam rising off the man. Kadsuki, though... it had been nothing but a deep and silent sadness when he met Ginji's eyes. The image had burned its way into Ginji's soul as he blinked back tears.

In the distance, the lights of the city seemed to blur together, stretching out farther than he could see, but here in the darkness, he could make out just a few stars if he leaned his head out of the balcony. He had wondered many nights just what might be up there, out there. He had often hopped up on the railing, leaning back, looking up, his eyes drifting half-closed in thought... And indeed, this was exactly how Mido Ban found him that night, just before daybreak.

"Ginji-san..."

It was barely more than a whisper from the shadows, but Ginji started abruptly, for in all these years, no one had ever found this place aside from himself. His own reflexive tightening of his muscles threw his balance off as he sat precariously perched on the balcony, and with an arm flailing wildly, he wondered in stunned silence if letting down his guard would be his own demise.

Death was not for him that night, for no less than a second later, Ban had grabbed a hold of Ginji's shirt in his fist, yanking him out of his fall and right off the railing. Ginji's hands reached out instinctively and found Ban's arms to steady himself, both gestures leaving them standing all too close. Their eyes met for a silent breath, not a challenge so much as a question, and then Ban stepped back, letting go of him. "I'm sorry for startling you."

"How did you find this place?" Ginji turned away, leaning his elbows on the railing and looking out over the city again.

"I followed you."

Ginji's moment of silence signified his surprise, and yet he felt as if he should have guessed that. "...why?"

"I wanted to talk to you."

What was there that they could possibly talk about? Ginji wondered to himself. He had no way of explaining what had happened much earlier that night, especially in words that wouldn't sound strange to his own ears. He had no explanation for how everything, every barrier, every wall, every hard edge, had fallen away in one glance from those eyes. The very thought scared him deeply and yet intrigued him all the same. Even as much as everything in him screamed that he could trust the man standing before him, Ginji refused to allow himself to be burned by opening himself up to someone he didn't even know. "There isn't anything for us to talk about," he answered, still not even willing to look Ban in the face again. "I thought I told you that hours ago." He paused for a moment, and when Ban did not reply, he snapped out shortly. "You said you wandered here by mistake to begin with, so isn't it about time you left?"

"You could leave this place."

Ginji's blood froze at the softly spoken statement, and he whirled back on Ban in anger born out of frustration. "And who are you to tell me what I can and can't do?"

Ban shrugged, unfazed by Ginji's angry reply. "Then tell me why you stay."

Ginji had never really asked himself that question before. It had lingered at the very edges of his consciousness for years, but Mugenjou was the only place he'd ever known. He knew every crack in the walls of Lower Town, knew the name of every person who lived there, every man, every woman, every child who looked up to him. It wasn't that he wasn't physically capable of walking out any door in the place, it was only that he never had. The faces of the people he knew, the people who were loyal to him, flashed through his mind, and he saw his answer. "How could I leave them?" he murmured, looking down at the ground. "They need me."

"And you're content to kill yourself slowly while you live for everyone else and never for yourself?"

"And you're content to live for no one but yourself?" he shot back, but there was less anger in it and more curiosity.

"I've... never had a reason to do otherwise..." Ban trailed off his answer as if there were more to say, but shrugged again. "It's a big world out there, Ginji-san."

Ginji looked up again and Ban was surprised to see fear in his eyes. It was the last emotion he'd expected to see, and yet somehow the most telling sign that Ban had been right to follow him. "It's a world I don't know," he admitted, biting his lip and turning back to the balcony. The sky was just starting to grow pink on the horizon, the moon had long ago fallen from the sky.

Ban hesitated a moment in uncertainty, closing his eyes and trying to recall the moment of connection they'd had hours earlier. No one had ever stopped him so dead in his tracks before, had so completely thrown off every amount of focus, every bit of cold and steely concentration he'd drilled into himself over the years. It was the only moment he could ever recall feeling warm...whole... and as much as the newness of it unnerved him, he was more afraid of letting it slip away than he was of the unthinkable thing he was about to request. He reached out to place a hand on Ginji's shoulder from behind. "Come with me."

A hundred negative replies filtered through Ginji's mind in an instant as he turned and stared at Ban in surprise. Time seemed to stop, a hundred lines of dialogue, questions, fears, hopes, dreams passed between blue and brown as the sun chased away the last dusting of night, shedding a golden shaft of light across the balcony.

Ginji reached up a hand, tentative, to touch Ban's cheek. He had no reason to trust him, truly, and leaving might be at once the hardest and easiest thing he'd ever done in his life. Still, for all the reasons not to go, he could find only one reason to - he wanted to know the man before him. "Okay," he finally whispered. "It... it won't be easy..." he added, before Ban could reply.

"The further you get from this place..." Ban started, stepping just a little closer to Ginji. He paused, his hand still steady on Ginji's shoulder as Ginji's fingers brushed along his cheek. "I can't promise you much... but I can promise you won't be alone."

"Ban-chan..." Ginji mused thoughtfully, and the corners of Ban's mouth lifted in a surprised smirk. "Thank you."

It was then that Ginji smiled. Years later, Ban would still swear it had been a brighter sight than the day break sun.

Not Everyone

"Ban-chan?"

"Hmm?"

"What do you think makes people the way they are?"

Ban cracked one sleepy eye to glance down at Ginji, but his friend's expression was blank, giving nothing away. "What do you mean?"

The two were in their customary location, sprawled on the grassy hill in the park beside the swings that Ginji was so fond of. The afternoon air was heavy, with the vaguest wisps clouds rolling in from the west - the beginning of a storm was on the horizon, and the absolute stillness of the air made Ginji all too aware of the power behind it. He was never sure if he loved or hated the fact that he could sense them coming from miles away. "I was just thinking about... people. That latest case... I don't understand... how someone could... could use their own friends like that."

"People are greedy, Ginji," Ban replied, reaching a hand down to run his fingers through Ginji's hair. Ginji, in turn, only snuggled closer to Ban, looping an arm across his friend's stomach to join the head he had already placed there. "And selfish. People put themselves first all the time."

Ginji mused over this for a moment before replying. "I don't think all people are like that... and... I think that's why I like being a Get Backer so much."

Puzzled, Ban wasn't sure how to reply, and so he simply led Ginji to continue. "Oh?"

"Doing the right thing..." Ginji continued almost as if Ban had not said anything. "Getting back things that are taken from people..."

Ban idly wondered how Ginji would respond if he said he liked the money part of it best. His partner was certainly the more morally righteous of the pair, but Ban couldn't help but find that Ginji's influence could sway his own heart too. "I guess there is a certain kind of satisfaction in doing things that help other people."

There was silence for a moment, and the wind picked up, a cool gust to interrupt the humid warmth as the sky slowly started to grow darker. "Back when I was in Mugenjou..." Ginji paused, considering his words. He didn't actually like to talk about his time there, but sometimes when thoughts were pounding in his head, he found he could ease them by telling them to Ban. "I was also trying to do the right thing... to... protect people. To make them feel happy...and safe... and.... And maybe even cared about."

Hearing the hesitation in Ginji's voice, Ban let his hand slip down to squeeze Ginji's shoulder. "That's not a bad thing."

"Yeah, but... I look back and I don't like the things I did... I mean..." His voice trailed off as he shifted slightly, opening his eyes to gaze up at the clouds that continued to roll in. "I never trusted anyone. Despite the fact that I was sincere in wanting to do good things for other people, I always had trouble believing that... that anyone else would feel the same way. I had trouble even believing that Kadsu-chan would want to do things for me... just for the sake of caring about me."

"And do you still feel that way?"

"Well..." Ginji was again hesitant, and this surprised Ban a bit. Sometimes it was all too easy to forget the mark those days had left upon his friend, and how despite his disarming confidence and bubbling enthusiasm, he could still be rather insecure. It surprised him even more that despite that insecurity, Ginji still tried to find ways to let Ban understand him, and he felt a pang of guilt at not being able to do the same.

"Ginji?"

"Not really..." he finally mumbled, rolling onto his stomach, one arm still draped across Ban, to gaze at him with the hint of a smile playing at his face. "I trust you, Ban-chan... I know that... that you wouldn't ever do to me what that man did to his friends. I just... I guess I sorta trust my other friends a little more now too, but... not like I trust you."

He knew that asking might make him feel worse, but his curiosity could not remain silent, and so he queried. "And why do you trust me so much?"

Ginji pondered this question as well, a myriad of expressions passing across his face before he finally replied. "You do things for me... just because... because you want to. Not because you have to... and... because I can tell you things, and you listen to me, and... and you don't judge me."

Ban sighed, wondering how Ginji could have such utter faith in him. Granted, it wasn't that he didn't have trust in Ginji as well, but... "I'm sorry, Ginji."

Scooting up towards Ban, Ginji leaned over him with a worried glint in his eyes. "What? Why are you apologizing, Ban-chan?"

"I'm sorry I can't do the same for you."

"I... don't understand. You don't trust me?"

"It's not that..." Ban replied quickly, reaching out a hand to again ruffle Ginji's hair in reassurance. "I'm just... not much of a talker. And I hope you don't feel badly because I don't tell you so much about my life."

"I'm not upset at you, Ban-chan," Ginji smiled in relief and then stretched himself out against Ban, resting his head in the space between Ban's head and his shoulder. "I know stuff about you... whatever you tell me... and whatever you don't tell me... it's all just fine."

Ban chuckled softly. "You sound a little like me now... but really, I just feel bad for not being able to give you the same thing in return."

Ginji nuzzled Ban's neck lightly before replying. "I didn't mean to make you feel bad..." he murmured.

"Nono, it's fine..." Ban nodded, opening an eye to squint at the sky. "You can still tell me anything you want to tell me, I don't mind."

Ginji nodded as well, and feeling a familiar tingle in his fingers, whispered to Ban softly. "Then I'll tell you... it's about to rain."

Ginji's proclamation was heralded by a giant raindrop landing on Ban's nose, and they both started to laugh. A few more fell as a flash of lightning arched across the sky, and Ban climbed to his feet, offering a hand to Ginji. Ginji, knowing how Ban hated to be wet, shrugged his vest off and tossed it over his friend's head before running on ahead. They made their way towards the car as the rain started to fall a little more quickly, Ban smiling in amusement as Ginji skip-hopped over the puddles that were quickly forming on the path, cheerfully oblivious to how soaked he was getting.

"Baaan-chaaan!" he called back in a rather sing-song manner. "Look at the way you can see the trees reflected in the puddles! Isn't that cool?!"

"Ginji..." Ban said softly, reaching out to touch his shoulder as they stopped by the car door. Ginji turned, grinning, and Ban smiled to see the rain flattening his hair and running down over his cheeks. "What I said about people being selfish... I think you're probably right."

"Oh?" Ginji tilted his head, waiting for Ban to continue.

"Not everyone is like that."

Strawberry & Vanilla Swirled

"Ban-chan!" Ginji hissed from the doorway of the pizza place. His brown eyes were wide and worried, and even as he called out, he turned to look back out into the street again.

Ban looked up from where he'd been casually leaning against the red and white counter waiting for their order and raised an eyebrow. When Ginji gestured for him to come closer, he slipped his wallet back into his pocket, making his way through the crowded sets of beat up wooden tables and chairs until he was at Ginji's side. "What's wrong?"

"Ban-chan, the car!" Ginji exclaimed, still holding the door open with one hand.

Ban's eyes now also went wide as he glanced over Ginji's shoulder to where the car was sitting, parked quite illegally in front of the pizza place. "What about the car?"

"Cop! Down the block! With a pad!" Ginji explained quickly. Ban understood the fragments immediately and grimaced. "We can't afford another parking ticket." No sooner had these words come out of his mouth when their pizza order was called. "Listen, Ginji..." he said, leaning closer as his glasses slid down his nose slightly. "I'll grab the pizza, you kill the lights, and then we'll make a run for it before the cop gets down here."

"Right, Ban-chan!" he enthused. "You get the pizza and I'll... but... wait! Why am I killing the lights?"

"Slight miscalculation of yen," Ban remarked as he sauntered over to the counter. "No time to explain."

Ginji's trust in Ban was unshakable, and despite a slight twinge of guilt at what he was about to do, he nodded, leaning casually against the doorframe, his hand spreading out along the wall. All he needed was just one wire close enough to...

The lights flickered once, and then with a spark and a crackle, the entire place went dark. Slipping out the door amid people's screams, he found that Ban was already inside the car revving the engine. Ginji leapt towards the car, catching the pizza as Ban tossed it at him.

The car streaked away from the pizza place just as the cop came running towards the screams, with Ginji hanging onto the sunroof for dear life. He managed to use the momentum of their screeching turn around the nearest corner to pull himself into the car, settling the steaming pizza on his lap. "Where are we going?" he questioned as Ban glanced in the rearview mirror.

"Anywhere as long as we're not being followed," Ban replied with a grin as he glanced over at Ginji. "Why?"

"Because...this....pizza..." he winced, lifting the box from his knees and shuffling it from hand to hand and back again. "Is very...very...HOT!"

Ban chuckled, sliding the ladybug into a parking space outside the gates of a local park. Ginji was a mere moment away from snatching the first piece from the box when Ban lifted it from his hands and jumped out of the car. "Well, I'll be glad to eat the entire thing if it's too hot for you."

"Ban-chan, no! That's not fair!" Ginji bolted after him as he made a mad dash into the park, past the slides and seesaws, away from the street lights. "You wouldn't starve your best friend! Baaaan-chaaan!" he wailed until Ban, still laughing, finally came to a stop at the edge of the sandbox. He set the pizza, now sufficiently cooled, down on the plank of wood, flipping it open and inhaling.

"Ah..."

Ginji was quick to snatch a piece, and then settled himself on a swing directly opposite the sandbox. They ate in silence, and after the entire box had been devoured, Ginji kicked off on his swing, rocking slightly back and forth and turning his gaze to the sky. Here in the center of the park it was dim enough to make out some of the stars overhead. Without meaning to, he found his thoughts drifting away.

"You shouldn't go alone."

"That's the point. I want to be alone."

"Ginji?"

"Nani?" Glancing at Ban seated on the edge of the sand box, Ginji smiled slightly.

"Daijoubu?"

Ginji nodded slowly. "I was only thinking..." When Ban did not say anything, he continued. "I've always loved the sky, day or night. I... I remember some nights back then... I would climb, up and out...up and out..." He lifted his eyes again, his brow furrowing at the memory. "When I was myself... when I wanted to get away..."

"You are away. No need to think about that," Ban replied shortly with a shake of his head, rising from the wooden edge of the sandbox and coming to stand in front of Ginji. He pushed at the chain of the swing, making it turn slowly from side to side, but Ginji was again lost in the whisper of an old memory.

"Everything...was dark, dirt, grit..." his voice had dropped away to a whisper. "But looking at the stars... guess it reminded me there was a world outside there."

Ban had circled behind the swing as Ginji spoke, finally laying a hand on his shoulder gently. "Then forget about that stuff and think about... right here and now." Without giving Ginji a chance to respond, he gave his friend a mighty push, sending the swing soaring into the air.

Ginji laughed in surprised delight, his hands wrapping around the chains as the swing soared so high it nearly flipped around the bar in a loop. "I'm flying! Ban-chan!" he called out, laughing, as Ban gave the swing a second push.

Ban grinned, glad to have snapped him out of his meandering. "We may be thieves, but not litterers," he commented, picking up the empty pizza box. Ginji was still laughing too hard to pay attention as Ban left him swinging to toss out the pizza box. When he returned a few moments later, he found that Ginji had left the swing to lay on his back in the spring grass, eyes closed, a smile still painted across his face. Ban sat down beside him silently and Ginji opened his eyes, looking up at him.

"...Ice cream! But Ban-chan...you said we had no yen...did you..."

"I only said we didn't have enough to pay for a pizza."

"But... there's only one ice cream cone!" Ginji realized as he sat up and leaned towards Ban.

"We only had enough for one," he grinned mischievously, taking a large lick. It was swirled strawberry and vanilla, Ginji's favorite, and he continued to smirk even at the pout Ginji wore.

"Not FAIR Ban-chan!" he cried, reaching out for the ice cream cone only to have Ban turn so it was out of reach. "Can't I even have a taste?"

"You want a taste that badly?"

"Hai!"

"SO badly?"

"Hai! Ban-chan! Please?"

Ban turned back to face Ginji's pleading eyes, teasingly closing his mouth over the top of the cone to snatch the entire top swirl of ice cream from it. Just as Ginji was about to protest again, Ban reached out to grab a handful of his shirt. He pulled Ginji so close their noses were almost touching, and then pressed his lips to the other's, his tongue parting Ginji's lips, slipping the cool taste of the ice cream between them.

Ginji was too surprised to resist, instead his hands rising automatically to find Ban's shoulders even as the other drew away. "B...Ban-chan..." he breathed.

Ban smiled just slightly, silently taking another lick of the ice cream cone before replying. "Was it that good?"

Ginji wasn't sure how to reply. Indeed, the ice cream had been good... but he had nearly lost sight of that as his mind replayed the feeling of Ban's lips, surprisingly soft, against his. "I... I'm not sure what I liked better," he finally stammered.

Now it was Ban's turn to be just a little surprised, and he peered at Ginji, trying to see whether or not he was joking. Ginji, never one to miss an opportunity, used the momentary hesitation to reach out and snatch the ice cream cone out of Ban's hand gleefully. "Ginji!" Ban exclaimed as his friend tried to make a run for it. He had barely gotten to his feet when Ban tackled him, sending the two of them tumbling back into the grass, what little was left of the cone flying away from them.

Over and over they tumbled in the grass, sparks flying as Ginji threatened to fry his friend, but ultimately it was Ban who came to rest on top of Ginji, pinning his hands above his head. "Ban-chan!" he complained. "We wasted the ice cream!"

Ban smirked down at Ginji as he struggled, shaking his head. "No... I don't think we did." Ginji gave up his struggle and stared up at Ban's eyes, the crystal blue evident even in the growing darkness of the night. "Ginji... did you mean what you said?"

"About what?"

"About..." Ban shook his head suddenly, letting go of Ginji and rolling off of him. "Eh, nevermind."

"But..."

"So we're sleeping under the stars tonight?" He flopped back into the grass, and after a moment, Ginji did as well.

"It's fine with me, Ban-chan..." he murmured after a moment's hesitation. Ban, hearing that tone of voice again, frowned, reaching out an arm to tug Ginji closer until his head rested on Ban's chest. He didn't need to see Ginji's face to know that the frown had melted away into a peaceful and sleepy expression.

"Ban-chan..."

"Hmm?"

"I think... that was the best ice cream I've had in a very long time."

Sleep Talking

The sun was just starting to sink below the horizon, casting amber ribbons of light across the counters of the Honky Tonk, when Ginji slid onto a stool with a weary sigh. Natsumi popped up from where she'd been stacking glasses behind the counter and gave him a puzzled look.

"Ginji, it's not like you to look so sad. Are you hungry?" She reached into the pocket of her apron and produced a box of pocky. "Strawberry! I know you like this kind..." She waved the box temptingly in front of Ginji's face, but his response was less than enthusiastic.

"I'm not hungry, Natsumi-chan," he mumbled, folding his arms over the counter as he slumped. He sighed, letting his chin sink down to the counter as well until only his eyes were visible between the pillow of his arms and the tuft of his blond hair.

Ginji not hungry? Natsumi gave him a worried expression as she set the box of pocky down on the counter. "Oh, Ginji... since when are you ever not hungry? You've really got me worried now. Where is Ban? What's wrong?"

"I am meeting Ban-chan here," he replied, lifting his face just slightly. "We are going over to sign a lease tonight."

"A lease? You mean, you have a place to stay? That's wonderful news!" Natsumi clasped her hands in front of her and was about to continue her congratulations, but Ginji's expression was still sad and forlorn. "Ginji...?"

"Can I ask you for advice, Natsumi-chan?" he suddenly spoke up again, lifting his head to rest his chin in his hands, elbows now propped on the countertop.

"Of course..." she said hesitantly.

"It's a secret matter, and you really can't tell anyone..." he leaned forward, his voice growing hushed and she nodded with wide eyes. "I don't know what to get Ban-chan for his birthday."

Natsumi blinked in surprise and was about to laugh, but the utter seriousness of Ginji's statement made her reconsider. "Oh...umm... is his birthday soon?"

"Tomorrow!" Ginji wailed loudly and suddenly, and Natsumi jumped. "I've been thinking and thinking, but, you see, it really needs to be something special, and I just can't think of anything at all!"

Crossing her arms over her chest, Natsumi closed her eyes for a moment, thinking. Really, there were only three things she had ever noticed Ban caring about - yen, his car and Ginji. "Maybe you can... do something for his car?" she finally offered helplessly.

"Eh...?" Ginji gave her a very puzzled look and she quickly amended the statement.

"Go driving somewhere special!"

Ginji pondered this for a moment, but really, he wanted to give Ban something tangible. "I've been saving every yen I could hide from him," Ginji explained. "And I..."

He had no time to finish the statement as Ban breezed into the café, cigarette hanging carelessly from his slightly smirking mouth. "Ginji! Are you ready to go?"

Ginji perked up immediately as if nothing had ever been wrong and waved enthusiastically, first at Ban, and then at Natsumi. "See you later, Natsumi-chan!" He turned to follow Ban to the door and then with a second thought, reached back towards the counter to snatch up the box she'd left there. "And thanks for the pocky!"

Ban had left the car running just outside the door, and moments later they were headed several blocks away to their new home. Ginji preferred to leave the paperwork and bargaining to his friend, and stared out the window of the office as the streetlamps slowly came to life. He had less than a day to figure out what to get for Ban.

Upstairs in their 4th floor apartment, Ginji was again staring out the window absently when Ban finally decided to interrupt his apparent moping with an elbow to the ribs. "Ginji! Would you rather be back in the car?"

Ginji blinked, turning to smile at Ban. "No, no...I was just thinking."

The apartment was relatively small, and barely furnished. What constituted as the living room was a ratty old sofa and a single lamp and the bedroom had one double bed, its quilt faded with age. But there was heat and was running water. It wasn't much, but it was more than either of them had had in a very long time. "No thinking," Ban grinned, lightly punching his shoulder. "We should be celebrating!"

"Of course we should," Ginji nodded, unable to help grinning in return. No matter his worries, whenever Ban was around, he couldn't help but feel cheerful. "How are we going to celebrate?"

Ban's grin stretched even wider as he indicated the paper bag he'd set down on the floor by the door. "The reason I was a little late meeting you."

Ginji scrambled to the door, lifting the bag and peering into it gleefully. "Pocky! And...and... what is this, Ban-chan?" he asked as he withdrew the bottle. He could tell immediately that it was alcohol, but he was sure Ban had much more of an idea exactly what kind it was.

Chuckling softly, Ban crossed the room and snatched the bottle out of Ginji's hands. "It'll be good, trust me."

"Of course I trust you, Ban-chan," Ginji nodded, and a few minutes later they were sprawled on the faded quilt, leaning back against the sofa, laughing and munching sticks of pocky. As he glanced over at Ban, watching his friend's easy grin, Ginji was sure he'd never been this happy.

Several hours later, Ginji was afraid he'd have to rescind that thought as he stumbled to the kitchen, turning on the faucet with shaky hands. He leaned his head right under it, letting the water pour down over his heated face as he gulped it down gratefully, stomach churning and room spinning. He stood up, breathing deeply, and walked slowly back to the darkened living room where Ban lay on his side, asleep on the floor.

Ginji flopped down beside him with a sigh, feeling just a bit sorry he'd drank as much of that bottle as he had, and was about to drift off to sleep when he heard Ban's voice. "Ban-chan..." he mumbled sleepily as he rolled towards his friend. "Did you say something?"

There was no reply, and Ginji closed his eyes, once again nearly asleep before the mumbling sound returned. His eyes snapped open again and he peered at his friend, but Ban was most definitely still asleep, his breathing slow and steady. As Ginji watched him, his friend started to mumble again, and suddenly the incoherent bits became words, the words became fragments of sentences...

Ginji listened, an idea forming in his mind, until the mumbling ceased and he drifted off to sleep again himself.

*******

Ban was perched on the couch reading a very thick book when Ginji strolled into the apartment the next evening, a fairly large bag slung over his shoulder. Ban set the book down on the floor and gave him an almost wounded look. "Where have you been? I woke up around noon and you were already gone!"

"Happy Birthday, Ban-chan!" Ginji exclaimed, setting the bag down and leaping onto the sofa to tackle his friend with an enormous hug. Ban's initial expression was replaced by deep surprise as he ruffled Ginji's hair lightly.

"Eh? How'd you even know it was my birthday?" Not that he minded Ginji knowing, but he couldn't recall the topic ever really coming up.

"I saw your license the last time we had to pay the towing ticket," Ginji replied cheerfully as he drew back and reached for the bag on the floor. "I'm sorry I was gone for so long, but I went to get you a present!"

"Present?" Ban echoed doubtfully, but he couldn't help but smile.

Ginji withdrew the plain brown box apologetically, and leaned back against the arm of the sofa after setting it down in Ban's lap. "I'm also sorry I didn't have time to wrap it."

Ban glanced at the box, then at Ginji, and then back to the box. "You didn't have to get me a present."

"Of course I did!" Ginji enthused. "Go on and open it!"

Obligingly Ban slid the lid off the box and pushed aside the piece of white tissue paper. Ginji watched his friend's expression move swiftly from bewildered to embarrassed to confused. "What...?"

"You...you don't like it...?" Ginji's voice was soft and his eyes revealed every bit of hurt from Ban's reaction.

"Of...of course I do!" Ban reassured him and looked down at the contents of the box again. Two large and fluffy white bunny slippers stared up at him, and he had to resist the urge to laugh. "I just wondered...where you'd gotten...such a creative idea."

"It was all thanks to you," Ginji finally smiled again, pleased. "You told me yourself."

"I did?" Ban was growing more puzzled as this conversation continued.

"When you were asleep! Last night!"

Ban stared at Ginji and then narrowed his eyes. "I do not talk in my sleep."

"You did!"

"I do not!"

"Yes you do! You talked about the animals you used to have...when... when you were a kid. I mean, maybe it was a dream, but... you said it, and I listened..." Ginji trailed off at the expression on Ban's face and looked away, instantly deflated. "I... I'm sorry if I offended you..."

Ban let his eyes slide from Ginji's face back to the box again, and then he closed them, thinking. Could his friend be right? There was so much of the past that he simply chose not to think about. It wasn't that he'd ever forgotten any of it...he just had no need to dwell on it now. The white fur was soft underneath his fingers, and for a moment, he thought he heard the echoing of laughter, felt a shaft of sunlight drifting in through a snowy window... "Ginji." Ginji didn't answer, his eyes still focused on the floor, and Ban reached out a hand to touch his arm. "Thank you."

Ginji looked up, surprised at the softness in Ban's eyes, and smiled weakly. Of course, he wouldn't explain, he wouldn't say whether it was true or not, whether he remembered or not... but that was okay with Ginji. It was simply the way they were. "Ban-chan..."

Ban reached to pull one of the slippers from the box, examining it carefully, slowly, before lobbing it suddenly at Ginji's head.

The bunny bounced off of Ginji's nose as he gaped in surprise and Ban laughed loudly. He went to reach for the second one, but Ginji already had a hold of it, leaping off the couch and threatening him with a twinkle in his eyes. "Ban-chan, that was MEAN!"

Laughing again, Ban dove across the room to avoid Ginji's toss, his hands closing around the first slipper. He chucked it over his shoulder at Ginji, but missed again as the second slipper came sailing again to whack him in the back of the head. A few tosses later, the slippers had been discarded in favor of their usual playful wrestling, which, as was almost always the case, ended with Ban pinning Ginji and staring down at him gleefully. "I win."

"You always win," Ginji sulked as Ban laughed, but then suddenly seemed to grow a little more serious.

"...I really do appreciate it..."

Ginji stared up at Ban, the dark hair falling into his face, the deep blue of his eyes... "I... wanted you to have a happy birthday..." he stammered. It was always at moments like this, when the bottom seemed to drop out of their playfulness, that he found himself stranded in his friend's gaze. Ginji didn't mind either... in fact, he actually reveled in these moments.

Ban smiled gently and nodded, his eyes traveling over Ginji's face, his warm brown eyes, his full lips parted as he breathed heavily from their tumbling. He knew he was staring and yet he couldn't help it. "A happy birthday..." he murmured thoughtfully. "Ginji, could I..."

"Ban-chan, would you..." he started at the same moment, but before he could even begin to laugh again, Ban's mouth was pressed firmly against his own, warm, soft and yet completely unyielding. Ginji sighed happily into the kiss, his eyes drifting closed as Ban slipped his tongue between Ginji's lips teasingly.

Ban drew back, laughing softly at the blissful expression on Ginji's face and stopped pinning his hands, but only so that he could slip his hands beneath Ginji's shirt and dance his fingers up his chest. "As much as I appreciate my first present, I can think of a second present I'd enjoy more..."

As Ginji colored a deep shade of red, Ban's laughter could be heard echoing out into the winter night.

Ginji unter der Dusche XD

Breakwater

The sky on the eastern horizon was the most delicious blur of Ginji's favorite colors as he gazed out the window of their 4th floor apartment. The sun was just beginning to lighten the grey-blue sky to cotton candy rose, sending ribbons of gold to cascade over the city, glinting and refracting off the glass of the skyscrapers all around, bouncing the light from one plane to the next.

Sometime in the night they had shifted from the hard floor to the more relative softness of the bed, and Ginji slipped as quietly as he could from between the sheets to pad lightly across the wooden floor to the bathroom. He glanced over his shoulder and smiled at the sleeping form in the bed and hummed the beginning of his favorite song under his breath. "Semari ikaru konnantte mon jyanai..."

Inside the bathroom, he closed the door gently behind him and peered into the somewhat dirty mirror. Seeing as last night had been their second night in the new place, they hadn't gotten around to doing much of anything with it yet. Between the streaks of smudgy dirt Ginji stared at his own face for a moment as he continued to sing under his breath. It never ceased to surprise him how much happier his own reflection seemed than it had in the past. "Futari no tame ni sora to daichi ga ugokita..."

"Shakariki na hi yo come back..." He slid open the glass door of the shower, wincing as it squeaked for a moment in its runner, and reached out a hand to the faucet. He wrapped his hand around the cool metal, turning it abruptly and then lifting his hand to let the water run over it until it turned warm. He slipped into the stall, sliding the door shut a little more carefully to avoid the squeak and then stepped under the stream of water.

"Mafuyu no umi ni nageta misanga... Oto mo tatezuni kieteshimau no ne..." he sang a little more clearly as he tilted his head back, letting the water run over his face and slide down his body. Truly, there were only a few tangible things that Ginji really reveled in... pocky was certainly one, and ice cream another... but he didn't think he even loved either of those things as much as he loved water, wind and, of course, lightning.

Standing in the shower with the water pounding around him sent his mind tumbling back to the first time he'd ever seen the ocean. One warm summer day just after they'd finished a fairly successful job, Ban had simply told him to get in the car; they were going for a drive. "Bouhatei makkani moeru go go..." Oh, how he had absolutely reveled in the sight - the water stretching out and out and out until it met the satin blue sky as if the world simply fell off the edge into a waterfall he couldn't see. He had tumbled in the waves for hours and hours, laughing and singing, not caring how many times he was tossed and ground into the sandy shore. When he had finally crawled back to where Ban sat on a blanket reading a book, he had simply burst into tears, babbling quite incoherently his thanks. And Ban, as always, had simply smiled and nodded.

Even now, Ginji laughed at the memory, turning around and around under the water and splashing it against the walls of the shower as he did so. "Namida spangle mitai ni kirei de...konna ni dakara sou waratte furimuichadame...Sa ikuwa yo!"

So lost was he in his own revelry, he did not hear the door of the bathroom creak open as he continued to sing, all the while getting louder and louder until his voice matched the tumbling cascade of the water around him. "Arashini dakarete yumekara jump...eien ga oshiyoseru I love..."

"Singing about me again?"

Ginji jumped, nearly slipping, and reached out to wipe the steam away from the glass doors. "Ban-chan!" he exclaimed. "I didn't even hear you!"

"Between the water and the singing..." Ban started and for a moment Ginji frowned guiltily knowing he had woken him, but Ban's slight smile made him realize he was just being teased.

"I'm sorry I got carried away, Ban-chan..." he started.

"You don't ever need to apologize to me for being happy, Ginji..." Ban chuckled as he peered at him through the steamy glass. "Mind if I join you?"

Even though it was nowhere near the first time they'd been unclothed together, Ginji still blushed from head to toe, averting his eyes as Ban slid the glass open until they came to light on Ban's feet. "Ban-chan! You do like my present!" he exclaimed gleefully, his head snapping up. Indeed, the bunny slippers were the single item of clothing Ban was wearing, and it amused Ginji to no end.

"My feet were cold..." Ban muttered as he slipped them off and stepped into the shower, but he was grinning.

"I'm so glad..." Ginji started, his eyes shining as he reached to push the wet hair out of his face.

Ban stared at Ginji as the water started to flatten his own hair, thinking he could quite possibly never tire of this sight. Ginji was still humming cheerfully, bouncing from one foot the other, oblivious to the water dripping out of his blond hair to roll like tears over his cheeks and down his chest...

Ginji might have been oblivious to the water, but he certainly wasn't oblivious to the way Ban was gazing at him, or the way his friend looked as the water brought his dark hair to curl around his face. "I love the water, Ban-chan..." he enthused as Ban brought his hands up on either side of Ginji's shoulders to rest against the tiled wall and took a step closer. "Maybe sometime when it gets warmer we can go back to that beach?"

"Sure, Ginji..." Ban smiled slowly, leaning even closer as Ginji opened his mouth to say something else and then clamped it shut again at the hungry look in Ban's eyes.

Ginji's eyes drifted shut as Ban closed the remaining distance between them and their mouths met in a kiss that was far more deep and demanding than the few they'd exchanged the night before. Ginji tangled his fingers in Ban's damp hair as Ban trailed a line of kisses down his neck, stopping to nip at his ear. "Ban-chan..." he murmured and Ban chuckled softly.

Ban lifted his hands from the wall to set them on Ginji's hips, pulling him close until their slick bodies were pressed together and they stumbled backwards under the stream of water again. This time it was Ginji who let his hands slip from Ban's hair to cradle his face, kissing him again and again as the water beat down on their heads. Ban, in turn, dancing his fingers down Ginji's back as he knew his friend loved, kissed him back with just as much intensity.

They broke, sputtering for air under the rushing water, but only for a moment, as Ban grinned at Ginji, pressing him hard into the wall and kissing him yet again. The blood was pounding in Ginji's ears by now, and he was sure it wasn't simply the water. Moving as one unit without need for consultation, Ban turned the water off as Ginji reached to push the glass door open.

Still kissing, they stumbled their way back to their new room without a single care for the trail of water left behind and tumbled onto the bed in a pile of arms and legs. In Ginji's mind they were back on the warm sand of that beach under the summer sun, the crashing of the waves as the only backdrop to their mingled murmurs of each other's names. Hateshinaku sundasora wo motome...

Of the Summer Sunshine

I never used to like summer at all. Summer made the already suffocating tomb of Mugenjou that much more unbearable, reducing the dank and dusty passageways to miniature ovens of sticky humidity and more quickly rotting garbage. I hated the way, even in the darkest and coolest places, I could still sit and feel the sweat trickle down my spine.

Now, though, I'm finding that summer is everything that is free and open in the world.

Laying on my back in the long grass and letting it tickle my nose, I feel like I could gaze up at the sky and watch the clouds drift by for hours. The breeze is so... sweet... it makes me feel like I'd never breathed until I left that place with Ban-chan at my side.

As his name crosses my mind, I glance over at him, but his eyes are closed, his hands folded behind his head, and I find that I can't help but grin just watching him, breathing in...and out...and in...and out... Most people would think it's impossible for Ban-chan to look so peaceful and happy, but I know better.

Ban-chan suddenly cracks one eye open as if he knows I'm thinking about him, and I smile at him, rolling onto my side and leaning my head in my hand. "Ginji...?" he murmurs at me softly, asking me more with expression than voice.

"Just thinking..." I start. Despite the fact that Ban-chan always smacks me around for being absent-minded, I really do think about a lot of things, and this phrase is a standard beginning to my sentences, more and more lately. Ban-chan says nothing, he simply opens his other eye and watches me watching him.

Some people are afraid of Ban-chan's eyes, and I know he is quick to look away from most people who peer at him in curiosity. He never yells at me for staring though, and I do, time and time again. That blue is my favorite color, somewhere between the midnight and daytime skies, and when Ban-chan meets my eyes and smiles in that way I never see him smile for anyone else, it makes my toes tingle.

This time I've been staring too long, though, and he startles me by rolling onto his side, reaching out with the back of his fist to tap my forehead lightly. "I don't know how you can think so hard with so much empty space up there," he teases me.

"Ban-chan!" I complain, swatting his hand away, but he ruffles my hair instead. He knows I don't mind the teasing a bit, and I often think that's the thing about Ban-chan that most people will never understand - why he treats me the way he does. It's true that he mocks me and beats up on me all the time, but deep down I know he would do anything at all for me... he already has.

It was only last night, sprawled across the sheets of our bed with the moon and the streetlamps looking in on us that he said something that actually surprised me. I had been lost in one of my melancholy fits, and he had suddenly reached out one hand, one finger, to tickle me, in the one very ticklish place I have. I had no idea how he'd even known it was exactly that spot, but in a split second he'd straddled me, one hand pinning my hands, the other tickling me relentlessly until I practically screamed mercy from his mischievous grin.

He'd leaned down to kiss me then, much softer and warmer than you'd ever expect when you look at him, and ruffled my hair. He likes to do that. I remember what he'd murmured in my ear when I demanded to know the cause of my torture...

Anything to make you smile.

"Ginji? ...Ginji?" A hand waves in front of my face and I blink, coloring slightly as he laughs at me. "What the heck are you thinking about? I asked you if you wanted ice cream and you just stared at me like you didn't hear a word I was saying!"

Ah, Ban-chan... if I told you I was thinking about the sky and the sunshine, you'd probably just nod and smile. And if I told you I was thinking about you, about your eyes being like the sky, your smile being like the sunshine... you'd shake your head, laugh at me trying to be poetic, and tell me you weren't interesting enough to waste so much time thinking about. And so I don't tell you any of this, but merely smile and shrug. "I was thinking about what flavor I wanted..."

"Well, hurry and make up your mind... it's getting too hot out here."

"I'll never get tired of the sunshine," I reply with a grin, scooting closer. We fall into a familiar pose, my head resting on his stomach, his hand running carelessly through my hair, and I know we'll find some excuse to stay like this awhile longer. We always do.
